Black and white view of Front Street showing the ferry tower at centre.
Caption: The Ferry Tower. From the top of this structure, possibly sixty feet high, a cable extended across the Yukon to the west bank and, in summer, a ferry attached to that cable and using the river current for energy (8 or 10 miles per hour) provided transportation to West Dawson. While I was in High School, our Science Teacher demonstration Foucault Pendulum using piano wire fastened to the top of the tower with a curling stone, suspended at street level, swinging at first parallel to Front Street, and or [sic] course, gradually making a circle.
