Black and white view of Dawson Public School.

Caption: Elementary and High School Building with football field and playground in front. A large lot behind the school was stacked with firewood for winter heating. Besides the Dawson children, four or five children were brought in daily by auto from Rock Creek, about ten miles away. My impression is that total attendance was about 100 - 125. The curriculum of the High School was wide and standard for all. It included Latin and French, English Literature, History (largely British and Canadian), Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, etc. On graduation from High School, a test set by and graded by the University of Toronto resulted in a certificate of matriculation which conferred admission at several major Canadian universities and which was also accepted by American universities.

N.B. Most provinces in Canada at this time required graduating students to sit provincial examinations. The practice was curtailed c.1975.
