A large number of people pose outside the theatre built by Arizona Charlie Meadows. The Palace Grand Theatre was built in 1899 (note the name and date at the top of the building).

Inscription recto: Dance Hall in Dawson

Inscription verso: The Palace Grand Theatre in Dawson City was built in 1899 by Arizona Charlie Meadows, who went up the Chilkoot Pass with a portable bar and the fixed idea that he would make a fortune from the miners, not the mines. He used lumber from two dismantled steamships to build the theatre. The theatre is being restored under the auspices of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board. It is planned to present a Broadway show in the Palace Grand during the 1962 Festival, July 1 to August 17. (National Museum of Canada Photo).

Note: The play produced and staged during the 1962 Jubilee Festival was "Foxy" starring Burt Lahr.
